Betty May Everett, 84, of Ottumwa, died December 9, 2022 at her daughter’s residence in Des Moines.

She was born April 6, 1938 in Hillsboro, IA to James Allender and Patti Beatrice Page Campbell. She married L.F. “Jack” Everett June 27, 1959 and he preceded her in death May 6, 2008.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Betty earned her RN license from St. Luke’s Nursing College in Cedar Rapids and later earned her Master’s Degree in nursing. She worked as a nurse in Cedar Rapids, Burlington, at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa, and for the majority of her career at Ottumwa Regional Health Center, primarily as an operating room nurse.

Betty was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed reading, bowling and gardening, especially tomatoes. She along with her husband were members of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #347, enjoyed camping and delivering motorhomes across the country.

Surviving are two sons, James C. Everett (Sue Popkes) of Columbia, MO and Scott A. (Karen) Everett of Marshalltown; a daughter, LaBet J. Everett of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Anthony Bower, Jonathon (Kaitlyn) Cross, Lucas Cross, Tara (Jason) Dorman and Taresa (Rich) Charrier; eight great grandchildren; a step-daughter, Deb (Gene) Ehlers of Quasquenton, IA; two step-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Everett of Independence, IA; and her dog, Gigi.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Campbell and her dog, Cinnamon.

Visitation with her family present to greet friends will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, December 26th at Reece Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 27th at Reece Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. The service will be livestreamed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
