Bernice McElroy

Vada Bernice McElroy, 87, of Ottumwa, died at 10:25 a.m. October 9, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

She was born November 7, 1930 in Oskaloosa to John and Catherine Dickerson Bartlow.  Vada married Marion McElroy and he preceded her in death in 1989.

Bernice grew up in Oskaloosa and was a homemaker.  She loved to crochet, make things for her grandchildren, fishing, camping and playing Bingo.

Surviving are her children, Tom E. (Joyce) McElroy, Marvin McElroy, Peggy (Tim) Roberts, Pam McNabb and Marilyn Reyes all of Ottumwa; and a total of 108 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Jim McElroy and Patrick McElroy; two grandsons, James McElroy and  Shawn McElroy; a great-grandson, Clay McElroy; two brothers, Elmer Bartlow and LeRoy Bartlow. and a sister, Patricia McCann.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.  Cremation will follow the visitation.

Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society-Hospice.
