Arrest Made in UTV Theft

An arrest has been made in connection to the recent UTV thefts in rural Wapello County.

At approximately 11:02 Tuesday night, Dallas Tapley, 22, was arrested at 20767 Bluegrass Road, where the Can-Am UTV had been recovered Monday.  Tapley was charged with Theft 1st Degree a C Felony, Possession of Methamphetamine a D Felony, Assault on Peace Officer a Serious Misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a Simple Misdemeanor, and Interference With Official Acts a Simple Misdemeanor.  Tapley remains in the Wapello Co Jail in lieu of $30,000 cash bond.

According to Iowa Courts Online, Tapley had been charged with a Felony Controlled Substance Violation in April of 2018, for Possession of Methamphetamine.  In December of 2018, as part of a plea agreement, he pled guilty to a lesser included charge.

The arrest was the first in connection to the recent thefts of two UTVs, which were recently recovered.  The Polaris UTV was recovered February 1st at a residence in northern Davis County.  The Can-Am UTV involved in this arrest was recovered February 4th at Tapley’s residence on Bluegrass Road.

This criminal charge is an accusation and the Defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
