Eldon—Join the American Gothic House Center for a special presentation by Michael Zahs on Sunday, November 9 at 1:00pm inside the American Gothic House.  The program will explain how cloth bags and the revolutionary idea of marketing to women helped Iowans survive the Great Depression and the shortages of World War II. Flour sacks, feed sacks and seed sacks will tell the story from relief work by Herbert Hoover to clothes and quilts in the 1950’s.

The presentation is free and open to the public.  Funding for this presentation is provided by Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.  A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historic programs and grants to Iowa’s communities.

Persons with disabilities who require special assistance to attend this event are asked to contact the American Gothic House Center in advance at 641-652-3352.
