Albia Woman Dies in Train Collision

A train collision claimed the life of an Albia woman in Monroe County Wednesday morning.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 58-year-old Melinda Stewart was traveling south on 695th Avenue at 10:14 AM.

The accident report states the Jeep was struck by an Amtrack train on its passenger side while crossing railroad tracks.

Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa State Patrol says the accident remains under investigation.
