Robert Bratten

Robert Paul Bratten, 70, of Ottumwa, died October 14, 2018 at home.

He was born April 10, 1948 in Waterloo, IA to Elmer and Lucille Knaak Bratten.  Bob married Deborah J. White on June 22, 1974.

A graduate of Valley High School in West Des Moines, Bob moved to Ottumwa when he was in his early 20’s.

He owned and operated Champion Bowl.  He graduated from Indian Hills Community College,   and then worked as an IT tech for Primus in Fairfield and an IT tech for Ottumwa Regional Health Center.  After his retirement, Bob drove a bus for 10-15 Transit and later drove a school bus.

He was a member of Willard Street United Methodist Church where he was a long time Youth Leader and sang in the choir. Bob was devoted to his family; giving of himself in everything he did for those around him.  He was a member of the Noon Lions and was a pilot and member of Ottumwa RC Flyers.  He enjoyed boating, water skiing, playing the guitar and writing music.  He coached his kids’ baseball teams and was an official for the US Swimming Association.

Surviving is his wife, Deborah; his children, Shelly Lefebure of Des Moines, Robert Andrew (Mary Beth) Bratten and Jeffrey Paul Bratten both of Michigan; 2 granddaughters, Katelynn Lefebure and Anna Bratten; two sisters, Barbara Koffman and Paula (Jon) Larson both of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Laurel Bratten.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Willard Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Leila Disburg officiating.  Cremation will follow the services.  Private inurnment will be at a later date at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation begins at  1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers  memorials may be made to the family or Willard Street United Methodist Church.
