A wanted Ohio man was arrested on Monday after he was observed near Albia High School.
Around 9:00 AM, a suspicious man, later identified as 46-year-old Victor Farris, was seen close to the high school. Farris was later located by Monroe County Sheriff Dan Johnson and was apprehended by officers from the Albia Police Department.
Farris refused to reveal his identity to the police. Authorities identified Farris and learned he had an active arrest warrant in Peoria, Illinois. Farris faces charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking, kidnapping, and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle. On September 4th, Ferris allegedly stole an SUV from Enterprise Rent-A-Car with a three-year-old boy inside. The child was later found safe at a gas station.
Albia Police Chief Jacob Miller told Ottumwa Radio News Ferris attempted to “train hop” to Des Moines but was discovered by a BNSF employee when the train was in the Albia area. Ferris jumped off the train and was subsequently discovered near Albia High School.
Ferris has also been charged with trespassing, interference with official acts, and malicious prosecution.
Ferris was transported to the Monroe County Jail. His bail has been set at $1,600.
