Police: Ottumwa Man Charged with Attempted Murder after Allegedly Stabbing Individual

An Ottumwa man faces charges after allegedly stabbing an individual, according to the Ottumwa Police Department.

62-year-old Joseph Lewis was charged with attempt to commit murder, a class B felony, assault while participating in a felony, a class C felony, willful injury resulting in serious injury, a class C felony, and going armed with intent, a class D felony.

On September 10 at 11:42 p.m., according to Lieutenant Jason Bell, the victim suffered multiple stab wounds at a residence on the 200 block of East Golf and drove to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center Emergency Room. Bell says the victim gave a statement to police and was later transported to the University of Iowa Hospital to treat injuries.

The victim was identified as 32-year-old Demetric Edwards of Ottumwa.

On September 12 at 3:30 p.m., Lewis was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail. He is being held without bond at this time.
