Ottumwa Man with Nine Priors Attempted to Steal from Tractor Supply

An Ottumwa man with nine prior convictions allegedly attempted to steal from Tractor Supply and was in possession of drugs.

47-year-old Albert Hunger was charged with 3rd degree theft, interference with corrections official, and controlled substance – 2nd or subsequent offense.

On September 13, court records say Hunger put on shoes in Tractor Supply on North Court Street and left without purchasing them. Authorities say they approached Hunger who was walking through the Great AEA parking lot. Hunger ignored commands from officers and left a bag in the parking lot before entering El Potro restaurant. Officers arrested Hunger after he fled north of El Potro through the parking lot.

According to court records, Hunger has nine previous theft convictions.

Officers searched the bag that Hunger had discarded while fleeing. Authorities say the bag contained a cigarette package that had a cellophane wrapper and consisted methamphetamine. Hunger had a baggie on his person with methamphetamine and the total weight of the two packages was 4.9 grams.

Hunger was transported to the Wapello County Jail. He pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance.
