Police say an Ottumwa man was driving a stolen vehicle and wrecked it when trying to escape from officers.
20-year-old Anibar Timothy was charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony, and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.
On September 26, court records say Timothy worked in concert with other individuals to steal a vehicle. At 2:11 AM, Timothy was seen driving the stolen car by an officer from the Ottumwa Police Department.
The officer turned on the emergency lights of the patrol car and attempted to conduct a traffic stop according to court documents. Timothy allegedly tried to flee but crashed the vehicle in a driveway. Police say Timothy exited the vehicle and escaped on foot.
Court records say Timothy was apprehended at 3:30 AM around the intersection of Ottumwa Street and North Court Street.
Timothy is currently in the Wapello County Jail on a $10,000 bond. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for October 4.
