Jerry Ellsworth Pettibone, born on April 14, 1933, in Moravia, Iowa, passed away on September 29, 2024. Jerry’s life was a testament to his ambitious spirit and his deeply rooted love for the soil of Moravia and Centerville. His life was imbued with a genuine love for farming, a passion that was only surpassed by his profound love for his family. His hardworking nature led him to a fruitful career in agriculture, where his dedication and generous spirit made him an irreplaceable pillar of his community.

Jerry’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his work, both as a farmer and during his 35 years at Viskase Company in Centerville. His ambitious nature was evident in all facets of his life, from his professional endeavors to his personal hobbies. His love for cattle was not just a hobby, but a true passion. This passion extended beyond farming, as he also enjoyed hauling lumber, often making numerous trips to Colorado. Jerry was an engaging storyteller who captivated his family and friends with tales of his life’s adventures. He enjoyed simple pleasures in life, such as eating popcorn and watching westerns, and his kindness was evident in his constant concern for others.

Jerry Pettibone was a man of many roles; a dedicated farmer, a loving family man, and a generous friend. His life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of dedication, love, and generosity. His legacy will be cherished by all who knew him, and his memory will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.

Survivors his children, Peggy (Bob) Mitchell, David Pettibone, Tim Pettibone; six grandchildren, Jennifer Mitchell, Stephanie Hanson, Brit Mitchell, Tiffany Hamilton, Brettany McFadden, Kelsey Stevens; thirteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one brother, Jim Pettibone. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don Pettibone and Virginia Rump; spouse, Joan Pettibone; one sister, Ann Topf; brother, Tom Pettibone; sister-in-law, Leta Pettibone.

Visitation will take place on Friday, October 4, 2024, opening the public at 3:00 pm, and family present from 5-7 pm at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. The funeral service will follow on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 10:30 am at the same location. Interment with military rites will be held in Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. Memorials may be directed Moravia Volunteer Fire Department or the Appanoose County Fair.
