A former Evans Middle School teacher was sentenced to prison in sex abuse case from 2018.
42-year-old Zachary Barr was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor, enticing a minor under 16, sexual exploitation by a school employee, and two counts of dissemination and exhibition of obscene material to minors.
On August 21, 2024, court records say Barr pleaded guilty to enticing a minor under 16 years of age, and sexual exploitation by a school employee, each are class D felonies. All other charges were dropped.
On September 9, a sentencing hearing was held and Barr was ordered to serve five year concurrent sentences. Barr is also required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
