Rick “Mushy” Henkle, who raised hell through seven decades in Cincinnati, Iowa, has closed the trucking logbook for the last time. He was born in Centerville, IA, on September 12, 1953. Mushy was as loyal as a hound dog and as reliable as his old chevy. He had an avid love for his International Harvester tractors. He was a cattle farmer extraordinaire, trucker, and demolition derby enthusiast, who, despite being a bit rough around the edges, had a heart as big as his beloved Iowa. Mushy tied the knot on July 25, 1981 to Deb Alexander, resulting in a marital rodeo that, by all accounts, was as entertaining as it was enduring. Retirement saw him trading in his 18-wheeler for a lawn chair, but the open road was never far from his mind. He could often be found on his deck, iced tea in hand, barking orders at his son, Jared, and watching his cattle with a proud eye. He was a fixture at the barn helping his kids with 4H cattle. His secret to success in all things? A good sense of humor and a love for his family that was as deep as the Grand Canyon, and his secret weapon, his wife of forty-three years, Deb Henkle.
Mushy is survived by his wife, Deb Henkle; children, Jared (Jamie) Henkle, Tara (Mike) Campbell, Tonya Henkle; grandchildren, Chase and Sadie Campbell and a baby boy Henkle coming in October; mother, Mildred Torrey; one sister, Vickey (Bob) Lawson, and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded by father, Richard Henkle; step father, Bill Torrey; and mother-in-law, Alice Alexander.
