Andy W. Covert, 75, of Ottumwa, died at 7:46 a.m. August 12, 2024 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born June 24, 1949 to Walter E. and Vreta V. Taylor Covert. Andy married Susan “Sue” Marie Ott on August 16, 1984 and she preceded him in death on September 19, 2010.
A 1968 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Andy served with the U.S. Navy from 1968-72.
He worked for 23 years at the power plant in Chillicothe, retiring in 2011. Andy enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid NASCAR fan.
Surviving are his children, Doug Covert of Ottumwa, Michelle Popp of Dayton, IA, Lacey Albertson of Ottumwa and Tammy (Aaron) Putnam of Clive; 8 grandchildren, Cole, Lane, Autumn, Ava, Sophie, Nina, Kyler and Mya; and sisters-in-law, Linda Covert of Ottumwa, Cathy Ott and Diane Kiene.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Andrea Covert and a brother, Steve Covert.
His body has been cremated.
Graveside services and inurnment will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 19th, at Shaul Cemetery with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Military honors will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
