OPD: Man with Drug Convictions Allegedly Breaks No Contact Order

An Ottumwa man with prior drug convictions faces charges after allegedly breaking a no contact order.

32-year-old Schuyler Letts was charged with Violation of No Contact Order, Interference with Official Acts, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, his 3rd offense.

On July 9, court records say the victim contacted authorities when Letts messaged her right after the no contact order was authorized. According to police, Letts approached a witness and threatened her to tell the victim to come pick him up or he would go to the victims residence and damage property. The witness told authorities that Letts knew his kids were also at the residence and under the order.

According to court records, Letts and the victim have a no contact order dated from July 9 to July 22.

Ottumwa Police say Letts was refusing to be handcuffed by jerking away and ignoring commands. During investigation, Letts pulled out two Oxycodone Hydrochloride pills without a prescription from his pocket.

Court records say Letts has three prior drug convictions dating January 2010, February 2013, and November 2020.

Letts is being held at the Wapello County Jail.
