Christie Lynn Franklin was born on June 30, 1965, the daughter of Richard and Nancy King Franklin. Upon graduation from Clark County High School, Christie’s compassionate nature led her to a fulfilling career as a caregiver in local nursing homes. Her selflessness was evident as she cared for her parents and later her mother-in-law in their homes. In 1987, Christie married Randy Hardin, and together they welcomed three beautiful children into the world.

Although they later divorced, the two remained close, united in their love for their family. Christie found love once more with Slate Sweat in 2013, and though they eventually parted ways, they maintained a respectful and caring relationship. Van Buren County was not only Christie’s birthplace but also the community she devoted her life to. Her work as a caregiver was not just a job but a calling, as she extended her nurturing heart to everyone in need. Christie’s love knew no bounds, and her presence was a source of comfort to many.

A loving mother and grandmother, Christie was the cornerstone of her family. She was a constant fixture at her children’s events, ensuring they had the support they needed in their various activities. With the arrival of her grandchildren, Christie embraced her role with enthusiasm, attending musicals and tee-ball games, always with a camera in hand to capture precious moments. She never turned down a chance to be with her grandchildren.

Christie’s affection for animals was evident in her care for stray cats, which she welcomed into her home with open arms. Her heart was as generous as it was large, and her capacity to care for others was endless. As we bid farewell to this wonderful woman, we celebrate the profound legacy she leaves behind.

Christie was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Danny and Shane Franklin and a nephew, Michael S. Crable.

Left to share her story are her children, Trenton (Alexis) Hardin of Danville, IA, Trey Hardin (Whitnee Ashby) of Ottumwa, IA, and Kalli Hardin of Keosauqua, IA; a bonus daughter, Cari Tennison (Jeremy Ballanger); five grandchildren, Philip, Liam, Xander, River, and Wilder and five bonus grandchildren, Aeryn, Corbyn, Jerrett, Broghan, and Hayslee; two siblings, Teresa Bliefert and Kenneth Franklin, as well as many extended family and many, many friends.
