Authorities: Subject of Amber Alert Safe, Father Arrested

The subject of a statewide Amber Alert on Tuesday is safe and his father is in custody, according to law enforcement.

Authorities say seven-year-old Bryson Duong was taken by his father Brandon Duong, 34, from Greene Elementary School in Jefferson. An Amber Alert was issued shortly after 3:30 PM.

A state trooper spotted Duong’s pick-up just over an hour after the Amber Alert was issued and initiated a pursuit that reached speeds of over 100 miles an hour. The suspect’s vehicle went off the road at about 5:30 PM near Remsen in Plymouth County.

Duong reportedly exited the vehicle carrying the boy and a rifle. Law enforcement surrounded the area and Duong surrendered without further incident.

Duong and his son were taken to a hospital in Sioux City and were treated for minor injuries, according to authorities.

Duong was arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping. A court order issued last December restricted Duong from having custody of his son.
