An Ottumwa man is behind bars after allegedly attacking an individual with a statue and causing serious injury.

26-year-old Tosan Santier has been charged with willful injury, a Class D felony.

In the early morning hours of May 7, Ottumwa police say Santier acted in concert with others to assault a person. Santier and the other assailants repeatedly punched and kicked the victim. Santier is accused of also grabbing a statue and hitting the victim in the face over and over again.

The victim reportedly suffered bruising, abrasions, swelling, and multiple lacerations to the face and head.

Santier is currently in the Wapello County Jail. He is being held without bail pending a hearing with a magistrate court judge.
