Ottumwa Man Faces Drug Charges After Traffic Stop

An Ottumwa man faces several charges stemming from a traffic stop last October.

31-year-old Ryan Engle has been charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, dominion/control of a firearm by a felon, person illegible to carry dangerous weapons, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In the early morning hours of October 6th, court records say a vehicle driven by Engle was stopped by Ottumwa police. A K-9 performed an open-air sniff and alerted officers to the presence of illegal drugs.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and authorities allegedly found 12 THC vape cartridges, 10 grams of marijuana, 42 grams of methamphetamine, a glass smoking pipe, packing materials, a scale with marijuana residue, and a loaded handgun on the floorboard. Engle is a convicted felon and by law, is not permitted to carry a firearm.

A warrant for Engle’s arrest was issued on February 21st and he was taken into custody on February 23rd.

Engle is currently in the Wapello County Jail with no bond pending an initial court appearance.
