James Keith Daugherty, 84, of Ottumwa died at 4:04 p.m. December 18, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
He was born November 4, 1938 in Ottumwa to Merl A. and Imogene L. Soots Daugherty. Jim married Karolyn Marie Robinson on June 13, 1964 at St. Mary of the Visitation in Ottumwa
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Jim served with the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He worked as a DJ at Skateland for a short time. He graduated from Barber College in Cedar Rapids and began working at George Boone’s Barber Shop. Jim purchased the business and then owned and operated Jim’s Barber Shop for 40 years, retiring in 2012.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation. Jim had been a member of Wapello Chiefs Barbershop Chorus, Heartland Bootscooters and Ottumwa Evening Lions.
Surviving is his wife, Karolyn; their children, Kim (Mike) Lambrecht of Oswego, IL, Steve (Liz) Daugherty of Osprey, FL and Kris (Todd) Koop of Waukee, IA; 5 grandchildren, Brennan Lambrecht, Josh Daugherty, Erin Daugherty, Megan Daugherty and Allie Koop.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jo (Ken) Weller and Janice (Dick) Peters.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 21st at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 22nd at Reece Funeral Home with Father Dale Mallory officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. The services will be livestreamed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Cremation will follow the services with inurnment in Shaul Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City or American Diabetes Association.
