Police: Juvenile Counselor Engaged in Sexual Activity with Victim

An Oskaloosa man is accused of engaging in sexual activity with a minor while employed at a juvenile placement facility, according to Ottumwa police.

29-year-old Charlton Benjamin has been charged with sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist (Class D felony) and sexual misconduct with an offender (aggravated misdemeanor).

Court records indicate on numerous occasions this year and last year, Benjamin, a counselor at a juvenile placement facility, engaged in a pattern of sexual activity with the victim. The victim was a juvenile placed in the same location as Benjamin.

Benjamin allegedly took part in sexual activities with the victim on multiple occasions.

A warrant for Benjamin’s arrest was issued on October 26th and he was taken into custody on October 28th.

Benjamin was transported to the Wapello County Jail. He was freed after posting a $7,000 bond.
