An Ottumwa man is accused of participating in a robbery of a house while armed.
18-year-old Malcolm Anderson has been charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon, and interference with official acts.
On September 28th, court records say Anderson and a juvenile accomplice entered a home on North Holt Street in Ottumwa with the intent to commit theft. According to police, the two perpetrators were armed and pointed a dangerous weapon at the victim. During the incident, Anderson was in possession of a firearm which is illegal due to a deferred judgment of a felony on his record.
A warrant for Anderson’s arrest was issued on November 4th.
On November 8th, Ottumwa police located Anderson on North Market Street and placed him under arrest. While one hand was handcuffed, Anderson allegedly pulled his free hand from an officer. Anderson was taken to the ground and refused to put his hands behind his back while smashing a cell phone that was in his free hand. An arresting officer sustained a cut on a finger due to Anderson’s actions.
Anderson was transported to the Wapello County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $30,000.
The juvenile accomplice was also arrested on the same day and charged with first-degree robbery.
