Iowa’s largest grocery store chain announced this week that its 285 stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

For the first time in the company’s 92-year history, Hy-Vee will be closed on the holiday which falls on November 24th. Hy-Vee has over 80,000 employees across an eight-state region.

President and CEO Jeremy Gosch says workers will be given the day off to enjoy it with friends and family.

“Thanksgiving Day is about gratitude. The last several years have been some of the most challenging our employees have experienced and this is our way of showing our appreciation for everything they do on a daily basis to serve our customers. By closing our stores on Thanksgiving Day, we can give back to our employees by providing them time to focus on their own celebrations.”Jeremy Gosch, President and CEO of Hy-Vee

According to a press release, all corporate offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Day as well.
