Police: Ottumwa Man Chased, Threatened Victims While Brandishing Knife

An Ottumwa man is accused of brandishing a knife and chasing two victims while threatening to kill them.

43-year-old Anthony Hendrix has been charged with attempted first-degree burglary, going armed with intent, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, and third-degree criminal mischief.

On the evening of October 2nd, court records say Hendrix armed himself with a large kitchen knife and chased a victim around a parking lot on the 500 block of Ottumwa Street in Ottumwa. The victim hid inside a locked car. Hendrix tried to enter the vehicle while the victim was closing the door. Hendrix attempted the stab the victim and struck the car’s roof, causing damage to the vehicle.

Additionally, Ottumwa police say Hendrix chased a second victim around the parking lot with the knife in his possession. Hendrix pulled the victim’s pants down and attempted to perform a sex act on the victim.

Authorities say the incident was captured on surveillance video.

A warrant for Hendrix’s arrest was issued on October 7th and he was arrested the following day.

Hendrix is currently in the Wapello County Jail. His bail has been set at $17,000.
