Kathy Louise Nickos, 62, of Ottumwa, died at 6:39 a.m. October 26, 2022 at her sister’s home.
She was born April 21, 1960 in Ottumwa to John and Bettina Arter. She married Marcus W. Nickos September 14, 1991 and he preceded her in death September 6, 2020.
A 1978 graduate of Ottumwa High School, she worked at Everco for many years until they closed. She then attended Indian Hills Community College and graduated in 2000 with her AA in health informatics. She then worked for many years at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
Kathy was a hard-worker and loved being able to help others. She was the token ‘fun’ aunt and doted on her nieces and nephews and great-nieces. She could always be found cheering on her beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Iowa Hawkeyes as well as watching NASCAR, attending concerts or heading to the casino with her friends. She enjoyed mushroom hunting and fishing. She was an absolute joy to be around and lived life to the fullest. She was a great sister and truly wonderful friend.
She was met at the gates of heaven by her husband, Marc Nickos, her parents, John and Bettina Arter, her brother, Scott Arter, a nephew, JC Arter and many beloved dogs.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her sister, Kerri (Charles) Rupe, sister-in-law Jackie Turzic, nieces and nephews, Blaine Rupe, Blaire (Brian) Siems, Blake Rupe, Blaise (Emma) Rupe, Casey Arter and great nieces and great nephews, Addison, Charli, Isabel, Jonesy, Porter, Finley, Henry, Raven, Kalis and Jacieanna; as well as many beloved friends and co-workers, including her long time friends Irene Whitson, Bonnie Campbell and Starr Person.
Her body has been cremated. A time to celebrate her life will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, October 30th at Reece Funeral Home.
Memorials can be made to Heartland Humane Society.
