Richard “Dick” Allen Irwin, 81, of Ottumwa, died October 24, 2022 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born May 7, 1941 in Iowa City to Dalbert D. and Hazel Leeper Irwin. He married Lillian Ann McWilliams on October 3, 1969.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served 4 years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked for Rexnord then Lund International until they closed. He worked part time for Green Country and Mowers & More John Deere Dealership as well as did repair work for others out of his garage.

Dick attended Trinity Church of the Nazarene. He was a lifetime member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. Most importantly he loved to tinker in his garage. “If Papa can’t fix it, nobody can.”

Surviving is his wife, Lillian; their children, Brenda Sue (Jason) Kirk of Ainsworth and Phil (Angela) Irwin of Downingtown, PA; 5 grandchildren, Drew Kirk, Ashley Kirk, Chloe Irwin, Ava Irwin and Blair Irwin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn Irwin.

Visitation will be open at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 30th, at Reece Funeral Home with his family present to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, October 31th, at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Seldon officiating. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military honors conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Memorials may be made to the family.
