Raymond H. Shotten, 91, of Ottumwa, died at 8:45 p.m. August 14, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

He was born March 12, 1931 in Cantril to Wylie and Opal Clouse Shotten. Ray married Betty Carnes and she preceded him in death in 1989. He married Mary Jeffrey Drake in 1994.

Ray grew up in Cantril and moved to Ottumwa in the 1970s. He served 1 ½ years in the Iowa Army National Guard and then served 2 years with the U.S. Army.

Ray worked for Northwestern Bell for 30 years, also doing all the telephone work for John Deere and Indian Hills.

He was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Ray loved traveling with his wife, Mary.

Surviving is his wife, Mary; four grandchildren, Bryce Shotten (Lauren Shields), Mandy Shotten (Ryan Davis) and Brooke Shotten (Joe Graham) all of Des Moines and Felicia (Mike) Giannini of Fernadina Beach, FL; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; siblings, Norman Shotten of Fairfield, Madaline Nutt of Atkinson, IL and Mary Lou Meade of Hampton; a special nephew, Rick (Kris) Jeffrey of Mt. Pleasant and a daughter-in-law, Sherry Shotten.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Beggs and Monty Shotten; and siblings, George and Murl Shotten and Margaret Lunsford.
Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 18th, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril with Pastor James H. Wakelin and Pastor Alan Paris officiating. Military honors will be conducted.

Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society Hospice, Heartland Humane Society or donor’s choice.

Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa is in charge of arrangements.
