Barry J. Van Engelenhoven, 76, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born December 2, 1945, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Albert J. and Tena Mae (Dahm) Van Engelenhoven. He attended Oskaloosa High School and graduated with the Class of 1963. He then furthered his education, earning an Associate and B.A. Degree in Computer Programming at Indian Hills and Central College.
Barry worked at Rolscreen (now Pella Corp.) in Pella for a time. He later worked at McDonalds in Oskaloosa for several years before retiring. Barry served on the National Guard for 4 years. He was a member of the Good News Chapel in Oskaloosa. Barry enjoyed computers, parachute jumping, watching movies and NASCAR races. Barry was a free spirit who enjoyed traveling and he recently enjoyed his trip to Colorado with his daughter Lesley and was looking forward to a future trip to Yellowstone National Park.
His family includes his daughter, Lesley (Ricky) Cratton of Burlington; his grandchildren, Coral (Steven) Jenkins and Cole (Tiffany) Gilpin of Burlington and Carter Helms of Burlington; his great grandchildren, Mazlynn Gilpin, Lennon Crews, Parker Tapscott and Easton Jenkins; a sister, Adonna (Jim) Ver Meer; his Niece, Angela Verschuure of Pella; great niece, Maranda Verschuure of Pella; great nephew, Keagan (Savannah) Verschuure of Oskaloosa; great niece Ashton (Karter) Smith and 2 great great niece and nephews Emma and Abel of Ankeny.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Tena Mae Van Engelenhoven; his grandparents and a niece Amanda Ver Meer.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 25, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present to greet relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to the family.
