Vying for their second straight trip to state, Davis County led Interstate 35 2-1 in the fifth inning but a couple of miscues opened the door for their opponents. The red-hot Roadrunners took advantage and turned the game in their favor.

A walk, a hit batter, and an error loaded the bases with none out for I-35 in the fifth. When the half-inning was over, the Roadrunners had a 5-2 lead and held the Mustangs to one run the rest of the way in a 5-3 victory to punch their ticket to Carroll.

Kale Day’s two-run single in the fifth gave I-35 a 3-2 lead. An RBI single by Chase Darst and a sacrifice fly by Cody Boyle capped the four-run frame.

Davis County mounted a rally in the sixth inning. Easton White scored on an error and the Mustangs had the tying runs in scoring position with two outs but I-35 starter Chase Dixson induced a ground out to end the threat and cap off a strong six-inning stint.

Dixson held Davis County to three runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out three.

The Mustangs opened the scoring in the first inning when Caedyn Glosser tripled and scored on a Dalton Reeves sacrifice fly.

After the Roadrunners tied the game, Davis County reclaimed the lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Aidan Fowler.

The Mustangs finish the season with a record of 22-12.

I-35 won their 11th game in a row. The Roadrunners will be in the state tournament for the first time since 2010.
