The Van Buren County Warrior softball team picked up an 8-4 conference win over the New London Tigers

The Warriors fell behind early when the Tigers scored one run in both the top of the second and third innings to take an early 2-0 lead. The Warriors were able to break through in the bottom of the third collecting four runs to reclaim the lead at 4-2 after three innings. After a couple of scoreless innings, the Tigers would claw back within one to cut the lead to 4-3 halfway through the sixth inning. However, the Warriors would once again have a big inning scoring four runs to extend their lead to 8-3 after six. The Tigers would tally one more in the seventh but it would not be enough as the Warriors would go on to win 8-4.

Head Coach Randy Smith said after the win, “We hit the ball better than we have been, still trying to get the girls in the right spot. Alli threw a great game (with) no walks, 5 hits, and 10 strikeouts. We had 3 or 4 errors behind her and with the completion we play, to be in games our defense needs to be almost perfect every night out.”

The win improves the Warriors to 3-5/1-3 and the loss drops the Tigers to 0-8/0-5

Up next for the Warriors are at 2A #10 Louisa-Muscatine on Wednesday night and for New London, they travel to 3A #4 West Burlington on Thursday

Warrior stats: Alli Campbell–Complete Game Win, 10K, 5H, 2ER also had 2 singles and 2 RBIs; Annabelle Cormier–1 single, 1 double, and 1 run scored; and Callie Kracht singles and a run scored
