Death of Newton Woman Spurs Investigation

The Oskaloosa Police Department and the Iowa Divison of Criminal Investigation are investigating the death of a Newton woman that occurred this past weekend.

The DCI says 28-year-old Alison Cooper was brought to Mahaska Health, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be performed by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the manner and cause of death.

During the investigation, 35-year-old Brandon Lee Slobe of Oskaloosa was arrested. Slobe has been charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, and failure to affix a drug tax stamp.

The Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement and the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the investigation.
