For the first three and a half innings of their South Central Conference matchup, Chariton starting pitcher Blane Wallace kept Davis County’s bats silent, and clutch hitting staked the Chargers to a 3-0 lead.

All of that changed in the bottom of the 4th inning.

The Mustangs took a lead they would not relinquish by sending 10 men to the plate and scoring six runs in their 8-3 victory over Chariton Wednesday night.

Davis County senior Carson Maeder got the Mustangs on the board with a two-run double. An RBI single by Presley Cantrell later in the inning tied the game at 3. Justin Matheney’s two-run single gave Davis County a 5-3 lead. Caedyn Glosser capped the 4th inning onslaught with a sacrifice fly.

After getting staked to a 6-3 lead, Mustang starter Dawson Townsend allowed just two base runners in his final three innings on the mound. Townsend (3-0) went the distance for the second complete game of his career.

Davis County (10-2, 6-0 in South Central Conference) will host conference foe Knoxville Thursday night.
