(Written by Chris Jackson)–The Lady Mustangs were able to extend their winning streak to 7 consecutive games last night, as they were able to come away with a 3-1 victory at Joyce Park in Keokuk in a game that was resumed after a rain delay on May 17th.

The offenses for both teams were held silent for the 1st 3 innings of the game. A pitching change by Keokuk in the top of the 4th yielded some results for the Lady Mustang offense. Madeline Barker homered deep over the fence in left centerfield to give the Lady Mustangs a 1-0 lead. That lead was short lived, as the Chiefs attacked Barker in the bottom of the 4th and were able to plate a run to tie the game at 1-1. Barker was able to work out of a jam in the inning, as Keokuk had runners on 2nd and 3rd after tying the ballgame up, but couldn’t get another run across the plate. In the top of the 5th, the Lady Mustangs were able to push 2 more runs across the plate to take a 3-1 lead. Sydney Henderson and Madison Dunlavy were able to come across the plate in the inning. Henderson scored as the result of a throwing error and Dunlavy scored on an RBI groundout by Jalee Lough. Keokuk threatened again in the 5th, but the Lady Mustangs were able to end the threat and claim the victory last night.

The Mustangs improve to 8-1, the Chiefs fall to 4-6

Up next for the Mustangs they play host to Chariton on Wednesday night looking for win number eight in a row (the game will be broadcast on the Ottumwa Radio Group Facebook Page), for the Chiefs play host to Fort Madison on Thursday evening in conference doubleheader action
