Randal Craig Rehkopf, 62, of Richland, IA passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at his home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield, IA with Pastor David Bracht-Wagner officiating. A time to visit with family will begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until the time of service. Burial will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, IA immediately following the service. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield, IA with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Randal’s honor may be directed to the Randal Rehkopf Cancer Research Fund at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and may be mailed to 2808 Sunnyside Ave, Burlington, IA 52601. Randal Craig Rehkopf was born on December 17, 1959, in Fairfield, IA to Richard and Wanda Davidson Rehkopf. He attended school in Fairfield, graduating with the high school class of 1978. During high school Randy was very involved in sports. He was a gifted pitcher and held several school records in baseball. His love for the sport would continue throughout his life as he always supported his St. Louis Cardinals. Upon graduation, Randy worked for a short time at Dexter in Fairfield before beginning his career as a truck driver. He began working for Dickey Transport in Packwood and eventually Panama Transfer in Richland where he continued working up until his health would no longer allow. In his free time Randy loved to golf and if he couldn’t be on the course, he would watch it on TV. Randy had a big heart and cared deeply for his family, especially his nieces and nephews and great niece and nephew. He will be missed by his family and his many friends.
Randal was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father, Richard Rehkopf; a brother, Ron Rehkopf; stepfather, Dick Abernathy and his aunt and uncle, Jip and Etta Fleming, as well as numerous uncles.
Left to honor his memory is his mother, Wanda Rehkopf Abernathy of Burlington, IA; his sister, Ranita (Jeff) Shelby of TN; his niece and nephews, Jayme (Daniel) Carruthers, Dillon Shelby, and Austin Shelby; a great niece and nephew, Joshua and Jordyn Carruthers; four aunts, Jean Keller, Barbara Schneckloth, Linda Holverson, and Twila (Mike) Knowles, as well as many extended family and friends.
