A Fairfield man was sentenced to prison earlier this week following a February drug bust.
Russell Allan Shirley, 39, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, less than 5 grams–a lesser charge than possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, more than 5 grams. On May 2, Shirley was sentenced to an indeterminate term of incarceration not to exceed 10 years in the Iowa Department of Corrections prison system.
According to Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Moulding, on February 16, Fairfield police officers went to Shirley’s residence, who had an active warrant for his arrest on an unrelated charge. After receiving no response from knocking on the door, officers received positive information from two people exiting the residence that Shirley was inside.
While executing the arrest warrant, Shirley was found in the home hiding in a bathtub after officers were told by Shirley’s mother that he was not home.
During the arrest, suspected controlled substances were seen in plain view. A search warrant was obtained and officers seized approximately 10 grams of controlled substance methamphetamine, along with cash, packaging materials, a digital scale, and glass smoking devices. Inside the container holding the methamphetamine, they located a debit card belonging to Shirley.
