A Sigourney man is facing a felony charge after allegedly attempting to meet a minor for illicit acts.
According to court documents, at around 2:00 P.M. on April 1, 2022, 28 year old Mark David Stocks used Facebook Messenger to contact who he believed to be a 13 year old minor with the intent to arrange a meeting for sexual activity. The minor was actually an undercover police officer. Stocks arranged a place for the two to meet for the illicit activity.
The incident report states that Stocks drove 34 miles to the location where the minor was located. He entered the residence and was placed under arrest. The report states that Stocks admitted to arranging the meeting for the purpose of a sexual encounter. He was taken to the Wapello County Jail and was released on bond on April 4.
Stocks has been charged with Enticing a Minor – Under the Age of 16, a Class D Felony. He has waived his preliminary hearing and at this time no further hearings are scheduled.
As a reminder, a criminal charge is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
