Kenneth Schuring, 84, of Oskaloosa, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022, at his home in Oskaloosa. Ken was born on January 13, 1938, at his parents home in Otley, Iowa, the son of Louis and Henrietta (Kelderman) Schuring. He attended Pella High School until 11th grade. On January 18, 1957, he was united in marriage to Gladys “Janie” McGinity at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. To this union 3 daughters were born, Peggy, Pam and Linda. Ken and Gladys shared 65 years of marriage together until her passing in February of 2022.
Ken began working at the Phillips 66 gas station in Oskaloosa at a young age. When he was 16 he took a job at Rolscreen (now Pella Corp) in Pella, where he remained working until retiring in 1985. After he left he and Gladys moved down to Lake of the Ozarks and he stayed busy doing carpentry work. He also did part time maintenance for a resort on the lake. They later moved to Jefferson City, Missouri, and he continued his maintenance work for a retirement home. Ken kept himself busy with remodeling and repair jobs and could always find the diamond in the rough. Ken owned a stock car and enjoyed attending the races. He also enjoyed being outdoors, boating, camping, hunting, fishing and Pepsi-Cola. He and Gladys both enjoyed attending his children’s afterschool activities and sporting events,
His family includes his daughters, Peggy Schuring of Oskaloosa, Pamela (Kevin) Keep of Jefferson City, MO., and Linda Molyneux of Oskaloosa; his grandchildren, Victoria Woolworth of Philadelphia, PA., Jessica (Tom) Bickel of Ballwin, Mo., and Ashley Keep and Kaleb Keep both of Jefferson City, MO., his great grandchildren, Madison Keep, Jack Bickel, and Katherine Bickel and a brother, Henry (Carol) Schuring of Leighton, Iowa.
In addition to his wife, Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Jake Schuring, Jennie Breen, Beatrice Van Houweling, Henrietta Van Engelhoven, Robert Schuring and Mary Lou Schuring.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Del Bittner officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Friday, March 25, after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Friday evening to greet friends and relatives. As was his wish, Kens’ body will be cremated following the funeral services. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Bible Church in Oskaloosa or the American Heart Association.
