James Dale Logston, age 85 of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Golden Age Nursing and Rehab in Centerville.

Dale was born on May 6, 1936 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Charles Roscoe Logston and Edith Edean (Warrick) Logston.  He graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines.  Dale then entered in to the United States Navy.  He served his country faithfully for six years during the Korean war, and was honorably discharged.

Following his military service, Dale began working at Parr Manufacturing in Des Moines.  He worked there for a period of time before accepting a job at Massey-Ferguson in Des Moines, where he worked for several years.  He also worked at Younkers in downtown Des Moines in security and loss/prevention for 14 years.

Dale enjoyed reading, junk shopping-especially thrift stores, and fishing with friends and family.  He loved traveling, often going coast to coast.  In his younger years, Dale was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church. 

Left to honor Dale’s memory are his children, Charles Logston, Linn Logston, Joseph Logston, Michael Logston, Robert Logston, and Larry Logston; two brothers, Richard (Sue) Logston and Eugene Logston; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as several extended family members.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Edith Logston; his still born child, Roger Logston; and a brother, Donald Logston.

Per Dale’s wishes, cremation has been accorded.  A private Celebration of Life service will be held in Dale’s honor.  Memorials have been established to the Logston family, to be determined at a later date, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, ATTN: Logston family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
