WATCH: Amazon’s ‘Fireball Run’ To Stop in Ottumwa, Burlington

By Ellis Codjoe, September 07, 2017

A show for adventurers, drivers, and knowledge seekers, Fireball Run is an authentically filmed series chronicling the endeavor and excitement of 40 aspirational driving teams leaving their lives behind in search of amazing places, unique attractions, and extraordinary people.

Season 11 of ‘Fireball Run’, dubbed Big Country, will film between September 22nd and 30th of this year.

The run will start in Eau Claire, Wisconsin with overnight stops in Rochester, Minnesota, Dubuque, Iowa, Burlington, Iowa, Fort Dodge, Iowa, Vermillion, South Dakota, Yankton, South Dakota, Pierre, South Dakota and finishing in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Pass through stops will be held along the route, including one in Ottumwa on September 27th from 10:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M.

Upon arrival, teams are presented a rare opportunity, unique task or challenge activity. Every mission and experience introduces a new chapter in the overall story of a great and often under-discovered destination.

“We’ll have a lunch in the park. We’ll feed them lunch, it’ll be canteens, mashed potatoes for our M.A.S.H. theme and Coca-Cola products, plus a desert,” Ottumwa Mayor Tom Lazio told Ottumwa Radio News. “They have to do a task kind of like a scavenger hunt. We’ll also give them a key to the city.”

Additional food vendors will be set up for the public to come enjoy lunch as well.

“Part of the task is that they have to spend a certain amount of money in downtown Ottumwa,” Lazio said.

Melissa Little, the director of the Ottumwa Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, says teams are given points based on completing certain tasks. The teams will be given additional points if they spend money in the downtown area.

“Then they are required to spend time in town passing out fliers for a missing child. They’re cause is to create awareness for missing children. Each team adopts a child from their own region,” Little said. “They’re recovered 44 children to date doing this. This is the 11th season.”

“It’s a public lunch kind of like the days we had lunch in the park. We want to give them a good reception,” Lazio added. “The hospitality of Ottumwa folks is outstanding. We want them to feel good and feel welcome. We’re hoping to have the high school band and choir come down as well.”

The cars, most valued at more than one million dollars, will be parked on third street between City Hall and the Public Library.

Employers can purchase lunch tickets for their employees ahead of time by visiting the Ottumwa Area Convention and Visitors Bureau inside the Bridge View Center. Tickets are not required to attend the event or eat lunch.

Season 10 of Fireball Run, the most recent to be completed, premiered on September 1st, 2017 on Amazon Prime Video.
