Seven Candidates Submit Paperwork for Ottumwa School Board

At least two new faces will be elected to the Ottumwa Community School Board as seven candidates have submitted nomination paperwork.

Candidates had until 5PM on Thursday, August 3rd to submit their names and nomination paperwork to the school district offices.

Four seats will be selected in the September 12th Election. Seats currently held by Greg Riley and David Weilbrenner, as well as appointees Nancy Manson and Jeff Bittner will all be on the ballot.

Neither Greg Riley nor David Weilbrenner submitted nomination papers to appear on the ballot, guaranteeing at least two new faces on the board.

Candidates who did file papers include:

Ann Youngman, a retired Ottumwa teacher.

Bill Hoffman, asset protection manager for Walmart in Ottumwa.

Michael Carpenter, a partner at the Gaumer, Emanuel, Carpenter and Goldsmith, P.C. law firm in Ottumwa.

Jeff Bittner, an OBGYN affiliated with the Ottumwa Regional Health Center. Bittner was appointed to finish Michael Burton’s term upon his resignation.

Nancy Manson, a current appointed board member. She was appointed by the school board to fulfil the term of Juanita Zavala.

Danny Simonson, a veteran’s representative for Iowa Workforce Development.

And Alex Barr, the former Chief Financial Officer of the Ottumwa School District who recently resigned from his position amid a May 20th drunk driving arrest. Barr is currently employed at Anderson Larkin as a CPA.
