Restoration Days celebration kicks off Thursday

By Ellis Codjoe, August 04, 2016

Albia’s 32nd annual Restoration Days celebration kicks off on Thursday, August 4.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Laura Teno says the event is “just kind of this Mad Hatter’s wonderland party”.

The fun begins on Thursday with a library book sale from 12 PM to 6 PM and a production of The Restoration Days Follies at 7:30 PM at King Opera House in Albia.

Tickets for The Restoration Days Follies are $9 for adults and $4 for children throughout the weekend, Teno notes.

Tickets for additional events [such as the Victorian Dessert Bar, the Back Alley Bash, and assorted kids’ activities] are available at both the Albia Chamber of Commerce office and the Chamber’s information booth on the courthouse lawn throughout the celebration.

The four-day celebration features even more family fun on Friday, August 5.

With events at the Monroe County Historical Museum, the Crazy Quilters Quilt Show at Methodist Life Family Center, an extended library book sale, “Miss Kitty the Library Lady” magic show at King Opera House, and another showing of The Restoration Days Follies, the day is sure to promise something for everyone.

According to Teno, Saturday’s schedule features a “jam-packed schedule” of morning and evening fun.

With events such as the Lions’ Club Breakfast, the Traditional Restoration Days Parade, food demo tastings, Chamber awards, music on the square, kids’ games and activities, carriage rides, wine tasting, the Mad Hatter’s Back Alley Bash (featuring cirque-style performances, belly dancers, and local DJs), and beverages from Albia Brewing Company, the day promises something for everyone.

Restoration Days wraps up on Sunday, August 7 at 4 PM with the finale of the Crazy Quilters Quilt Show and a special presentation by the Monroe County Historical Museum.

Teno encourages local families and individuals to “come to the parade [and] stay for the day” and take advantage of the fun weekend in Albia.
