Ottumwa Library to get a new librarian

(Ottumwa)The Ottumwa Public library will have a new librarian following action taken by the Ottumwa City Council Tuesday evening.
A recommendation to create an additional 20 hour per week part time librarian was approved on a vote of 5 to zero.
The library currently has a staff of 12 employees including 9 full time workers and 3 part time. The library board of trustees approved adding another part time position. Sonja Farrell head of the library says the addition of another part timer will help in three major areas including the fact it would help prevent other part time staff from getting to the Affordable Care Act limit of 29 hours per week. In addition the new addition will allow the director and assistant director more time to be away from the circulation desk in order to plan programs, do outreach and update and repair technological issues.
Ferrell says because of the recent retirement of the reference librarian hiring a new person will still save money in salaries next year.
