By Ellis Codjoe, June 16, 2017

An Oskaloosa man was injured in a motorcycle crash near Ottumwa Thursday night.

The Wapello County Sheriff’s Department says 50 year old Daniel Schooley was northbound in the ‘S’ curves of Bluegrass Road when the motorcycle ran off the roadway. The incident was reported at 10:09 P.M.

An accident report provided by the Sheriff’s Department says Schooley “did not realize the roadway turned back to the east. Instead of negotiating the corner [Schooley] went straight.”

Schooley stayed on the Harley Davidson as it went into the ditch. He put down his foot while crashing in an attempt to keep the bike upright.

The driver complained of severe pain and may have broken his leg from making contact with the ground. He was transported to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Schooley has been cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.
