Oldenburger Applies for Judgeship

By Ellis Codjoe, October 10, 2017

Three years and one month ago the Wapello County Board of Supervisors appointed Gary Oldenburger to be the new County Attorney following the resignation of Lisa Moressi.

Now, Oldenburger appears ready to move on to a different position.

Oldenburger is one of 10 people to apply to become a district associate judge.

Other local attorneys applying to the position include Michelle Swanstrom of Ottumwa and Patrick McAvan of Fairfield.

Interviews will be held this week, Thursday and Friday October 12th and 13th at the Keokuk County Courthouse in Sigourney.

A joint commission will narrow the field to three finalists. Those finalists will be interviewed by the judges of Iowa’s 8A judicial district on October 17th. The judges will then make the final selection and appointment.

Oldenburger served in the US Air Force from 1996-2006. He then worked in real estate for two years before joining the Iowa Attorney General’s Office as an intern in 2010.

He was hired as an assistant county attorney in October 2011.
