Man Arrested for Stolen Guns, Weed

Ottumwa Police Officers arrested an Ottumwa man on Sunday, charging him with possession of a stolen firearm and marijuana.

Officers responded to an apartment in the 1800 block of West Second Street at shortly before 8:00 Sunday morning.

They immediately arrested David Christopher Garber, age 22 of Ottumwa. Garber was initially detained on two outstanding arrest warrants.

Police then executed a search warrant at the home, resulting in the seizure of illegal substances and two stolen firearms.

As a result of the investigation and search warrant, David Christopher Garber, age 22 of Ottumwa was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
Probation Violation warrants (2 counts)
Possession of Stolen Property – Aggravated Misdemeanor
Possession with Intent (Marijuana) – Class D Felony
Violation of Drug Tax Stamp – Class D Felony
Felon in Possession of a Firearm – Class D Felony
Possession of a Firearm by Domestic Abuse Offender – Class D Felony

This isn’t Garber’s first run in with the law. He, along with a 16 year old male, was arrested in May of 2016 following a drive by shooting in the 800 block of East Finley. Garber negotiated a plea agreement in the case which resulted in a sentence of five years suspended prison sentence, probation for five years, 180 days in a residential correction facility, a fine of $750 and submitting DNA to the state database. We’ve included a full list of Garber’s past charges below.
