Douds

Lela Mae Barker, 88, formerly of Douds passed away at 8:55 P.M. Sunday Feb. 23, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society–Van Buren, Keosauqua where she had resided since 2009.  She was born Feb. 18, 1926 near Farmington to Floyd and Mabel Fine Boyer and married William H. Barker Aug. 23, 1975 in Farmington.  He died Feb 28, 1995.  Lela graduated from Farmington High School and Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant, earned her Masters Degree at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, Kirksville and taught in rural Van Buren County, Bonaparte and Farmington schools.  She and Bill lived their married life in Douds where she was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Twin City Chapter No. 258, Order of the Eastern Star and had held offices in each.  She was also a member of Van Buren County Retired Teachers Association, was active in the Douds Senior Meal Program and had been a Rebekah.

Surviving are five nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.  In addition to her husband she preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Viola VonSeggen and brother-in-law Ivan VonSeggen.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday Feb. 28, 2014 at Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, Rev. Mark Young officiating.  Visitation with family present will be 12:30-1:30 P.M. prior to the service at the church. Open visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds.  Burial will be in Greenglade Cemetery, Farmington.  Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 7995 LIV 237, Chillicothe, MO 64601.  Pedrick Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
