League of Women Voters Hosts 2nd Firearm Safety Presentation

The League of Women Voters of Ottumwa will sponsor a study group on firearm safety. The second of these presentations this fall will take place at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 12th at the Railroad Clubhouse, next to the Amtrak depot in Ottumwa.

The league goal is to have an open minded discussion of Iowa’s recent change in firearms laws, and the impact on public officials and private citizens.

Speakers are highly qualified, respected leaders from the legal profession, medical arts, law enforcement, business and shooting sports.

This promises to be a timely, balanced event, bringing the facts about Stand Your Groud, Concealed Carry Permits and more to area citizens.

This presentation deals with the impact on the community and the health aspects of concealed carry and the increase of firearms in homes that come along with it.

Speakers include Mike McDonough, a retired Ottumwa Police Officer and former member of the Southeast Iowa Inter-Agency Drug task Force. he will relate facts about concealed carry, firearms safety and stories from his experience in the field.

Christine Doyle is a health care practitioner who will share information about guns in the home and the impact of improperly stored firearms on health.

The presentation is free and open to the public. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
