Field Set for November General Election

By Ellis Codjoe, October 11, 2017

The field for the November city election has been set following Tuesday’s primary election.

Voter turnout in Wapello County was low overall, with just 9.65% of voters turning out to cast a ballot. That number is inflated slightly by the City of Eldon where more than 30% of eligible voters cast a ballot in the primary. An estimated 6% of voters turned out in Ottumwa.

Russell Weeks has been eliminated from the race for Mayor of Ottumwa after receiving just 9% of the vote. Tom Lazio secured 779 voters and will move on to appear in the November ballot along with Robert LaPoint who received 193 votes.

Corwin Williams will not appear on the ballot in November after receiving the least amount of votes. Another candidate who has ended her campaign will still appear on the November ballot.

Williams received only 70 votes and will not move on. Ashley Noreuil, who withdrew from campaigning after being recalled to active duty in the US Marine Corp, received 121 votes and will appear on the ballot again in November.

Matt Dalbey, Holly Berg and Skip Stevens each secured more than 20% of the vote. They’ll join Noreuil, Joe Denton and Adam Lunt on the November Ballot.

In other area races, Wendell Terrell has been eliminated from the race for Eddyville’s city council and David Showman jr has been eliminated from the city council race in Eldon.
