Fairfield Police Warns Residents of Phone Scam

By Ellis Codjoe, May 17, 2018

A new phone scam has come to the attention of the Fairfield Police Department and they want the public to be aware.

In this scam, the caller informs the victim that he/she has unpaid parking tickets. If they aren’t paid immediately, the victim’s driver’s license will be suspended or other measures may be taken.

In their statement to Ottumwa Radio News, the Fairfield Police Department wants to make clear that they will never call individuals in reference to parking tickets. The only communication that a person would receive in this case is a letter in the mail.  The FPD asks that you do not give out your personal information over the phone despite the fact that these scammers may sound convincing. Anyone with questions can contact the Fairfield Police Department at (641) 472-4146.
