Solar Eclipse Viewing

August 21, 2017 @ 11:30 am - 3:00 pm

Solar Eclipse Viewing Event

If you have not yet heard, there will be a solar eclipse on Monday, August 21, 2017. The Wapello County Conservation Board will host a viewing event at Pioneer Ridge Nature Area from 11:30 am until 2:45 pm. We will teach you how to make a simple pinhole viewer and a slightly more advanced viewer that will ensure you do not need to look at the sun to see the eclipse (which would be very bad for your eyes). The peak of the eclipse takes place around 1:11 pm (begins at 11:45 am and ends at 2:37 pm). Stop in any time during the eclipse. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy while the moon’s shadow moves across our area. There is no registration necessary. Just come on out and meet at the Haybarn Shelter! Bring your solar viewing glasses if you have them.
